Our GW Genomics Team

The GW Genomics Core team has expertise in targeted amplicon sequencing (e.g., 16S, ITS), shotgun metagenomics, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, single cell genomics, and ATAC-Seq applied to a wide variety of study organisms from humans, to black rhinos, to freshwater crayfishes.

  • Keith Crandall

    GENOMICS CORE DIRECTOR

    Keith A. Crandall, PhD is the founding Director of the Computational Biology Institute and the Genomics Core at GWU and a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, where his research spans computational biology, population genetics, and bioinformatics with a particular focus on infectious disease evolution and microbiome studies. He has authored more than 400 peer-reviewed publications and three books, and has received numerous honors including the ISI Highly Cited Researcher designation and fellowship in both the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Linnean Society of London.

  • Jack Villani

    PROJECT MANAGER

    Jack Villani, MSc, is the Public Health Laboratory Manager at George Washington University and Project Manager for the GW Genomics Core, with prior experience as Lab Manager of the GW Public Health Lab, research associate at GWU's Milken Institute School of Public Health, and postbaccalaureate research fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He holds a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is a global health doctoral candidate.

  • Kamwing Jair

    LAB DIRECTOR

    Kamwing Jair, PhD, is a Research Scientist at George Washington University, specializing in epigenetic therapy research with expertise in biomarker identification, drug discovery, and the molecular mechanisms of disease. He brings over 10 years of next-generation sequencing (NGS) experience, supporting GWU researchers with whole genome, targeted DNA, and RNA sequencing work.

  • Diane Britton

    FINANCE MANAGER

    Diane Britton, M.A., is the Fiscal Manager for the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at GWU's Milken Institute School of Public Health, where she leads oversight of budgets, payroll, personnel, grant administration, and compliance. She holds a Master of Arts in Women's and Gender Studies from the University of Tulsa and has previously supported the department in an enhanced administrative capacity, managing purchasing, travel expenses, and faculty scheduling.
